Magnolia West coach Ross thankful for support during battle with cancer

Marty Ross stepped up to the ball, the iron steady in his hands. He took several glances at his target, slightly shuffled his feet and found some bend in his knees. He took a short pause, brought the club back and fired all the way through to a smooth finish.

It was the first swing he had taken in five months.

"To be able to hit a golf ball and be pain free and not have any side effects, it was awesome," said Ross, the Magnolia West golf coach who has been battling Stage 4 pancreatic cancer since December. "It was just good to be able to do something that shows life. For two or three months, I was not feeling good and didn't want to do anything but go home and lay down."

The battle against cancer has been a trying one at times for Ross, but the outpouring of support he has received from the Magnolia community and beyond has been more than he could have ever imagined.
